Privacy policy
What we collect when you play, why, who helps us run the site, and how to see or delete your information.

Who we are
Playaholics is run by Digital Recreations Pty Ltd, trading as AiGILE Dev (ABN 19 668 879 356), Ground Floor, 50 Miller Street, North Sydney NSW 2060. In this policy, "we" and "us" means us.
We handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles in the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
For anything about your privacy, email hello@playaholics.com or call 1300 93 44 06.
The short version
- You can play every game without an account. We then know you only by a random ID stored in your browser.
- If you create an account, we keep your email address, the display name you choose, and your scores.
- Your display name and scores appear on public leaderboards. Your email address never does.
- We don't sell your information, and we don't use advertising cookies.
- You can see, correct or delete your information at any time.
What we collect
When you play as a guest
- A random guest ID, kept in a cookie in your browser, so we can keep today's game going if you leave and come back.
- Your games: when you started and finished, the moves you made, and your score. We need these to check scores are genuine.
- Anything a game saves for you, such as progress or settings.
When you create an account
- Your email address, and your name and profile picture if you sign in with Google. Our sign-in provider, Clerk, handles this for us.
- The display name you choose.
- Your year of birth (never the full date). We use it to check you're old enough for an account and, across all players, to see the rough age range of who plays.
- Your scores, results and streaks from then on, including any guest scores you choose to keep.
When you use the site
- Technical information our servers record for security and to keep things running: your IP address, the type of browser and device, and the pages you visit. We keep server logs for 30 days.
- Visit counts through Plausible Analytics, which counts visits without cookies and without identifying you.
When you contact us or sign up for news
- Your email address and what you tell us. If you sign up for news, we record when you agreed, and every email includes a way to unsubscribe.
Why we collect it
- To run the games, check scores are fair, and show leaderboards.
- To keep your account and your scores across devices.
- To keep the site secure and stop cheating, spam and misuse.
- To send you emails you've asked for, and messages about your account.
- To understand, in aggregate, which games people enjoy, so we can make them better.
We use the least information we need for each of these.
What's public
Your display name, your initials tile and your scores appear on leaderboards and results that anyone can see. Choose a display name that doesn't identify you if you'd rather stay private. Nothing else about you is public.
Young people
You need to be 16 or older to create an account. If the year of birth you give means you're under 16, we don't create an account, and we delete the sign-in details you've just given us. The site is aimed at adults, and nothing on it is unsuitable for younger players, but we take extra care for anyone under 18:
- We collect only what's needed to play and keep scores.
- When we show ads, players who may be under 18 will only see ads that aren't based on their personal information.
- A parent or guardian can contact us at hello@playaholics.com to see or delete their child's information.
If we learn that someone under 16 has created an account, we'll delete it.
Who helps us run the site
We use a small number of service providers. They handle information only to provide their service to us.
| Provider | What they do | Where |
|---|---|---|
| Amazon Web Services | Hosting, database and storage | Sydney, Australia |
| Clerk | Sign-in and account security | United States |
| MailerLite | Sending news emails and keeping the news list | European Union |
| Plausible Analytics | Counting visits, without cookies | European Union |
Clerk, MailerLite and Plausible are overseas, so some of your information may be held outside Australia. We choose providers with strong privacy and security practices and agreements that protect your information.
We don't sell or rent your personal information. We'll disclose it to others only if the law requires us to, or to protect people's safety.
Advertising
The site may show ads in future. Before we do, we'll update this policy to name the advertising partners and explain your choices. We won't use advertising based on personal information for anyone who may be under 18.
Cookies and your browser
We use a few essential cookies and similar browser storage:
- your guest ID, so your game keeps going
- your sign-in, if you have an account (set by Clerk)
- your light or dark mode choice
- your best scores and any scores waiting to be kept, stored in your browser
We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
- Account information: until you delete your account. We then delete it within 30 days, except where the law requires us to keep something.
- Guest information: until it's 12 months since that guest last played.
- Scores on leaderboards: while your account exists. When you delete your account, your scores are removed from leaderboards.
- Server logs: 30 days.
Keeping it safe
Your information is stored in Australia (apart from the providers listed above), encrypted in storage and in transit, and only the parts of our systems that need it can reach it. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will tell you and the regulator if a serious breach affects you.
Seeing, correcting or deleting your information
You can change your display name on your profile page, and you can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, or to delete your account, by emailing hello@playaholics.com. We'll reply within 30 days. We may need to confirm it's you first.
Complaints
If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, contact us first at hello@playaholics.com and we'll try to put it right. If you're still unhappy, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or on 1300 363 992.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change matters to how we use your information, we'll tell account holders by email before it takes effect.
